Nothing says Halloween quite like a glowing jack-o-lantern.
The Irish brought the jack-o-lantern with them to America, from it’s Celtic roots to ward off negative or evil spirits. Pumpkin was uncommon to see in the hills of Ireland and the first carved jack’s were more likely gourds, turnips and other squash varieties.
After immigrating to the United States, the pumpkin jack-o-lantern was born and became a glimmering icon of our fall celebrations.
The days and nights are getting chillier and all things fall are officially here.
Here in Croton-on-Hudson and in our neighboring communities, there’s no shortage of autumn adventure. One of the largest fall attractions in our area is the Great Jack-o-Lantern Blaze in Van Cortlandt Manor.
This event brings crowds from surrounding states and even across the country! The Blaze is so popular that tickets can hardly stay in the box office and they have since eliminated the opportunity to grab tickets at the door. So make your family’s reservations now!
The blaze is simply unlike anything you’ve ever seen.
Each year the Tarrytown, Sleepy Hollow and Cortlandt communities gather thousands of carved pumpkins and assemble massive themed displays through the winding Van Cortlandt Manor. Here you’ll find everything from dinosaurs, six foot tall sunflowers and even the famous local legend himself; the Headless Horseman.
These aren’t just a bunch of carved pumpkins, this event is a synchronized art installation of light and sound. As you wind through the dimly lit historical property, the pumpkin displays spring to life. This walk through will have you amazed and inspired to start your own carved pumpkin collection and decorate your yard for Halloween!
The Blaze also has a collection of keepsakes, refreshments and Halloween themed gifts to enjoy. Enjoy a fresh, local apple cider doughnut and a hot chocolate with plenty of whipped cream and grab your camera for some absolutely unforgettable fall photo ops.
The season kicks off on September 29th and tickets are on sale NOW!
Don’t miss the opportunity to join in on the fun in the Hudson Valley’s pumpkin paradise; the Great Jack-o-Lantern Blaze!
