Ice Tea

Hello! Two months have already passed and here we are in the home stretch of summer! It will soon be time for new jeans and sneakers and binders (gosh, don’t you adore school supplies?) Yet there is still plenty of summer fun left to have!

Nothing says “summer” quite like lemonade and iced tea do. They are truly the American quintessential summertime beverages! Who didn’t have a lemonade stand where they sold the lemonade mom made for $0.25/cup!!

How about trying some different cold drinks for the summer? Even better, these drinks you can make with the kids! Some of these can even be made warm as the weather begs for something to make us feel cozy!

1)      Korean cinnamon ginger tea – this tea is typically served chilled and is given at the end of a meal. Ginger is great for digestion and cinnamon has many health benefits as well. It’s delicious cold, but it’s also lovely
warm! The recipe is simple. Combine grated fresh ginger, cinnamon sticks and water. Then boil the mixture for about 10 minutes and then simmer for 20 and then add sugar! Keep it warm or put it in the fridge to cool! Kids LOVE it!

2)      Mint tea – this tea tastes even better when it’s served in a shiny Arabic-styled teapot and small glass cups! You boil water, and you put in your peppermint teabags and then add sugar and ice cubes! Voila! We know how good peppermint is for our digestion!

3)      Watermelon and mint juice – watermelon is the perfect summer fruit!!! Cut up 2 cups of watermelon (about ¼ of a small watermelon), add ice, several mint leaves, 2 teaspoons of sugar and then blend it up!!  Cool and refreshing!

These drinks are great to have at your summer gatherings, too. Make up a big pitcher and put some pretty cups next to the pitcher and let the relaxing begin! What are your favorite summertime drinks?
