How to Be Positive in a Negative World

People live in a world where it is easier to believe the negative than the positive.  Your friend could tell you how amazing, blessed, and talented you are 20 times over and you will not even listen to him.  He could tell you that you already have everything it takes to succeed in life.  He could tell you that you are already doing great.  He could even tell you that you have all the skills needed to achieve whatever you set your mind, too. But, you will probably ignore him and not believe a word he says.

However, a total stranger can walk up to you and tell you that you’ll never succeed and you will remember that incident for the rest of your life.

Why? Human beings are wired that way. People are programmed to focus on the negative and just shrug off the positive.

If you find yourself focusing on the negative too much, you need to change your mindset.  Successful people have figured out that focusing on the positive has a lot of benefits. It gives you hope.  It gives you a good reason for living.  It also helps you nurture positive relationships.  Optimism increases your mental flexibility and it helps you become more proactive in achieving your dreams.

Here are some tips that will help you be positive in a negative world:

1.      Count your blessings.

It is easy to focus on your problems and failures.  But if you want to have a great life, you have to learn to count your blessings.  Every morning, when you wake up, think of the things that you are grateful for.  One way to stay positive is to keep a gratitude journal. This will help you realize that you are more blessed than you think.

2.      Look at adversity as an opportunity.

Life is not a bed of roses.  Life will throw curveballs at you every now and then.  Therefore, you have to be wise and not let adversity or problems get to you and discourage you from aiming for the life that you want and deserve.  Look at problems and mistakes as opportunities to get better.

3.      Believe in yourself.

You are more talented than you think so don’t forget to believe in yourself.  Take time to list down the things that you like about yourself.  Take time to list down your talents and your special abilities. Henry Ford once said that whether you believe you can or you can’t, you are right.

4.      Surround yourself with positive people.

The world is filled with negative and toxic people. You have to avoid these people at all cost.  If you want to really live a positive life, you have to surround yourself with people who respect you and lift up your spirit.  You have to surround yourself with people who support your dreams and aspirations.

It is not easy to stay positive in a negative world.  But take heart: It IS possible.  It just takes a lot of practice and determination and a dash of optimism.
